OUT OF THE WOOD
by
Chris Pollard

Reviewed in New York by singer songwriter Dan Giangiobbe as 'hauntingly beautiful', and by British blues singer, Maria Daines as  'awesome', Chris Pollard's new CD, 'Out of the Wood' is receiving a good deal of interest within the music business.

'Writing and recording songs using only wooden instruments is something which appealed to me very much. I used a variety of guitars and a mountain dulcimer, along with various percussion instruments and a harmonica to achieve the over all sound. The whole thing, including the vocals were recorded in a home studio, and the result is a very clean and acoustic sound, or so I am told by my friends within the music business.'

The Song, 'If An Angel', is dedicated to my cousin Canadian singer song writer Heather Dale who has recently completed a successful British tour. And 'Moonflower' was a poem written in 2003 for my wife, to celebrate her work with animals by Bill Reckner. Unfortunately Bill is deaf and will never be able to hear the song but he is trilled that I used it. 'Fly away' took on a life of it's own and we ended up recording 2 versions of it which seem to work really well.

Thanks to Keith Pollard of the Cornish band Disposed for his great contribution, and to Anj from Cousin Red for musical input, and for producing the CD.

And what next. Well, keyboard player Colin Earl, who co wrote  Mungo Jerry's, number one hit, 'In the Summer Time,' and who also helped design the Beatles, Sgt Peppers album sleeve has said that he very much wants to record with me. I am very flattered.

Track 1) -  Got me dreamin' about my younger days for some reason. Good opener.

2) - Funky blues number. "Sitting...thinkin'...drinkin'. Great movement with lyrics that flow perfectly for this tune. Very good!

3) - Love this "If An Angel" song. Wish I'd written it. Very nice indeed.

4) - Good boogie, down home sound. I was groovin to it.

5) - Indian influence is nicely used....very relaxing.

6) - Melodic changes with 9th and minor 7th chords. Different for this  genre. I liked this one because it wasn't typical of a blues number.

7) - Moonflower....what can I say?  Will always be my favorite. Wonderful expression of love with vocals that can only be done by Chris.  Fantastic job!!!  All my love Mary Alice.

8) - That telephone really had me going for awhile. I kept shutting off the music because I thought it was mine going off there....I hope you're happy Chris!  Good stuff.

9) - Hauntingly beautiful. Reminded me a bit of Supertramp...loved the harmonica. I hear hardship and love in this one.

10 -11) - One of my all time favorites. How did you know? "Dead Flowers". Great rendition. I'd swear that you were from down south USA. I was singing right along.  Very...very good!

12) - I now use this song as a prelude to my pray time. Heavenly..........

Luv you all....and I'm so very proud to call you my friends.

*****

Just listened to the track and I must say Chris does the Dulcimer justice, its nice to hear an instrument you made being played properly, it made me want to go and get one of my guitars and strum along with him, if all the tracks are like that then I may just buy the album its my kind of music.
All the Best for the Future
