We are a group of musicians, songwriters and artists on myspace that are trying to do what we can, in a peaceful and caring way, to bring an end to the fur trade. Real fur from cats, dogs, and captive wild animals, is used to make fur trims for garments, trinkets, and even cat toys,
yes dead cat fur for cats to play with....
Sir Paul McCartney and his wife Heather Mills-McCartney have recently taken part in a BBC TV news programme, to help to highlight the need to stop this terrible cruelty,
you can find out more information on this link -
1:
Why China ???
Because it is the largest and without doubt the most cruel fur trade in the world....and though they have animal welfare laws that protect cats and dogs in the home .. wildlife in the wild - THE LAWS DO NOT COVER ANIMALS IN THE FUR TRADE so they can do anything to them that they want without the fear of being charged.
2:
This is not an anti chinese/asian campaign - there are many wonderful groups and individuals working within the country, after all it is they who first exposed this horror to the world ...... by this group we show our support for them - legally they are so limited as to what they can do or say
SO THEY NEED OUR HELP :) !
The animals caught up in this business are treated in such a cruel manner, that we feel we cannot ignore this issue. This is a trade based on greed and ignorance. If there wasn't a market for real fur then there would not be a real fur trade. Many countries must be buying it either unwittingly or otherwise. And the only way for it to be stopped is if the world says NO and refuses to buy real fur products. That means a lot of people need to know about this and say NO to real fur. It is also sad to learn that real fur is used instead of synthetic material because it is cheaper to process.
How cheap is animal life ?
And why do these poor creatures have to suffer so unimaginably before their deaths?
We would like to raise awareness that real fur is being sold around the world, often under ambiguous labelling, such as uknown origin, or even labelled as 'fake' fur. Here is the link to the myspace group where information is updated often in the forum.
We are urging myspace musicians and artists to join the SayNoToFur group and display a banner on their page, or sign the petition, or simply join the group to add weight to the cause. We are also hoping to release a cd of songs that will highlight the plight of animals used for their fur,
and we are even thinking of an Animal Aid concert.
These are early days but we will try all we can,
and we hope you may add your name or your band and your voice to this campaign.
Singers/songwriters/artists/musicians - we have a voice and we can use it !
Thank you, we hope we can make a difference together in 2006.
best wishes

Maria Daines and Paul Killington are songwriters from Cambridgeshire. They have been working together as band members and recording new original music since 1996. Maria writes all lyrics and melodies, and Paul plays all instruments, producing their songs independently from their home studio. They are currently rehearsing with their new 5 piece line up, to play live later this year. Recent cd release Treebone, along with other original tracks in rock, blues and country genres, has garnered Maria and Paul fans from all over the world and from countries as far and wide as Australia, Germany, Holland, Belgium, France, Switzerland and Russia. In Texas, USA, there's a particularly large fan base for Maria and Paul's southern flavoured sound.
Maria and Paul have just released a song entitled 'I Am The Owner Of This Coat' which is being downloaded and shared world-wide amongst animal lovers. Maria says 'The song was inspired by the work of Mary-Alice Pollard, Cornwall's Voice For Animals
This lady helps to save animals from distress and cruelty every day, she brought to our attention the campaign currently highlighted by Sir Paul McCartney and Heather Mills-McCartney, which is trying to prevent dogs and cats and captive wild animals from being destroyed by the fur trade in parts of the world. We wrote the song in a matter of minutes and recorded it over Christmas,
and we are very proud to be able to add our voice to this issue,
to hopefully raise awareness of the need to stop this cruelty in 2006'
The Maria Daines Band is a hard working no nonsense rock band playing original material written by Maria & guitarist Paul Killington. Hailing from Cambridgeshire, UK, they formed in 1996 and became a fixture of the East Anglian live music scene, notching up over 700 gigs including supporting Wishbone Ash & making several TV appearances throughout the 90's. Since taking a break from the road to record their extensive catalogue, including blues/rock collection Treebone & a cd for animal rights/welfare entitled Music United For Animals, plus Wisdom's Tooth, a full on rock record due for release this year, Maria & Paul's multi genre writing style has garnered much acclaim in over 20 countries & won awards, notably International Artist of the Year 2006 & 2007, Best Vocalist (IOMA) Artist of the Year Soundclick 2005, Best female vocalist Dmusic, Golden Kayak Awards at the Independent Artist Company 2005, Best female Artist 2006, Best country song 2006, Texas Humane Legislation Network Humane-itarian Award 2006 & top artist of all time at Songplanet Radio, enabling chart success in blues, rock & country genres on many popular OMD's. The band is now ready to hit the road once again & is currently warming up with long time bass player Bob Bampton & drummer Dave Whitley for a season of gigs that will culminate in playing the Party For Animals World Wide Festival at Ashton Court, Bristol in September. During the last year BBC radio has featured tracks along with FM broadcasts in USA & podcast/net radio all over the world. One of the highlights of 2006 was a personal message of congratulation from Willie Nelson. The band's hard rocking style & Maria's powerful vocals stands them in good stead to bring their original material to as many people as possible. Back in the studio Maria & Paul continue to work ceaselessly on the many facets of their songwriting with project pieces finding placement in TV/film production, including Hurricane Heroes which follows the rescue operation of animal victims of the Katrina disaster & a documentary based on the plight of dogs raised in puppy mills currently in production. Daines/Killington songs are published by NorthStar Music UK & available for artist consideration.

Quote from Colin Lynch, of the IOMA Awards, on reviewing
Maria & Paul's album Treebone -
Maria Daines and Paul Killington are without a doubt, two of the finest musical virtuosos ever to have mastered their craft in England, packaged it up,
and made it possible for us to share in many, many years.
Treebone is an important album in many respects...
buying the album should be made mandatory and, for Her Majesty's Government,
Maria and Paul are assets that should be given their TV Licenses
and Council Tax vouchers free for life
at the very least simply for making such wonderful music possible.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CAMBRIDGESHIRE U.K.
FEBRUARY 13 2006
Following on from the world wide demonstrations against the fur trade in China, animal lovers world-wide called for a ban on this practice, protesting in no less than 24 countries and 26 cities. With the 2008 Beijing Olympics approaching, it is certain that the misery behind the fur trade, and its implications to the western consumer world, will be a topic of widespread debate in the months ahead.
When we recorded and released our song 'I Am The Owner Of This Coat' for the musicians against the fur trade campaign, we had no idea of the impact that it would have within the hearts of animal lovers around the world. The song was borne out of distress when I discovered the true picture of a horror that I knew nothing about, the fur trade. I was to learn about the short and pitiful lives and unimaginably painful deaths, of thousands of animals destroyed mercilessly every day within this sickening trade.
Since the song was released via the internet, I am thrilled to say many of our fans and friends and people surfing the net, have signed petitions to register their disapproval of this trade, and downloads continue to rise every day. There is now a slide show to accompany the song and also cd copies can be obtained on request, for media and animal groups. Email treebone@mariadaines.com
Our song was inspired by Mary-Alice Pollard, Cornwall's voice for animals in UK,
and through this wonderful caring animal worker, and her friendship to Paul Killington, my co-writer and I, we would soon realise that a lot could be done to help to save these animals.
Mary-Alice is a tireless driving force behind what is steadily becoming a very important group, and one that we are very proud to be part of, a group which has many high profile musicians in its ranks, who are offering their voices and their music, to show that the fur trade will not be tolerated, and our common aim is to keep this issue in the public eye. Along with Mary-Alice, the core of the group is also supported by the invaluable contribution of an amazingly gifted artist, Steve Andrews, a colourful musician living in Tenerife, known as the Bard Of Ely, whose song 'You're a liar, Nicky Wire' is considered a cult classic.
The group has plans to release a compilation cd, of songs donated by musicians against the fur trade, which will raise funds for organisations that are taking an active stand against this cruelty. Bands and artists are already offering songs, some written especially to highlight this cause, and sponsorship and practical assistance is coming forth from music related sources.
'Singers/Songwriters/MusiciansSayNoToFur' on myspace, now has nearly 600 members.
I am pleased to say that since we became involved in the anti-fur campaign, we have found there are millions of caring animal lovers world-wide, that all wish to see an end to this torture. And indeed musicians are doing as much as they can, to encourage awareness, and hopefully, a ban on the fur trade will become a reality in the months ahead.
Radio presenters are playing our song and supporting the role of music as a means of reaching the public, and making people aware of what is going on in China and other parts of the world, where factory fur farms are commonplace and mostly unregulated. It is proving to be an effective way to inform and educate the public about the horror of this industry. Many internet radio stations and podshows, and even mainstream radio has given airspace to this message. In particular, Sue Marchant, a presenter on BBC radio Cambridge, UK, played the song on her show less than a month after it's creation.
Another high profile presenter from Canada, Paul D. Richmond, www.paulrichmond.ca of Zest Radio Show, CKRG 89.9 FM Radio Glendon, continues to play 'I Am The Owner Of This Coat' regularly, and he encourages his listeners to learn more about this subject and to ask questions and to make their own minds up, as to whether individuals wish to add anything to this campaign if they feel it is something they care about. Paul Richmond also invites thought and contemplation about the planet and its need for compassion and renewable energy, to promote a better future for generations to come. Many of Paul Richmond's listeners are college graduates and young musicians, but there is also a broad spectrum of followers from all age groups and backgrounds, including the independent music community, a community where response from listeners is valued, and feedback is often prolific. So far the interest in the content of Zest Radio Show, which broadcasts once a week on Fridays, during the regular school year, (September to early December, January 'till the end of March) from the Glendon Campus of, York University in Toronto, Canada is rising drastically, due to this presenters' willingness to discuss topics on his show that others are loth to expose. The show will soon have its own server in order to keep up with high demand. It is certain Zest Radio Show will always offer creative ideas on how to improve life for small communities, and therefore eventually impacting in a positive way, for the betterment of our global humanity.
Kyle, the manager of www.mixposure.com has also recently added a forum topic discussion thread to his mp3 music website. Mixposure is a leading music site and a place where musicians can now share their thoughts and concerns regarding the fur trade. Many members of mixposure, some extremely talented artists from all over the world, now have an option to display a banner on their music page, which shows their support for an end to this horrific trade. Some artists have been in tears and have expressed their upset when learning dogs, cats and captive wild animals, such as racoons and foxes, are in fact skinned alive for the purpose of using their pelts in fashion accessories and trinkets, coats and scarves.
One of the problems that needs to be addressed is that fur labelling laws are ambiguous. Fur is reaching consumers under confusing labelling tags, such as 'unknown origin' and names such as Gae-Wolf (and similar) often mean finished products will not show which animal a fur garment was derived from, in fact shoppers could be buying an item that they believe is fake, when it may have been taken from a living animal. This common practice is leaving buyers in doubt, or ignorance, as to what they are actually purchasing, and so items are bought unwittingly by many people that would indeed be shocked if they knew of the circumstances in which these animals were being killed.
The guise of 'fake fur' or 'faux fur' seems to be serving the fur industry very well, as a cloak of mystery, from under which they can operate unhindered, and make a vast amount of money. But it is obvious that the consumer would prefer to be made fully aware of exactly what they are purchasing, and especially if current fashion statements are leaving behind a trail of blood... Yes, the cruelty and suffering within this business is almost beyond belief. To view recent film footage and proof that the carnage is very much a reality, please visit this website - http://www.furisdead.com/ - Warning, the content is graphic and shows animals being beaten and skinned alive.
I will continue to support the musicians against the fur trade campaign, in a peaceful and musical way, and I hope in the months ahead, laws and regulations will be changed, in order to make certain that no fur in our marketplaces is real. World conscience, as voiced by compassionate animals lovers is saying and singing a very LOUD and UNITED 'NO TO FUR'
